MAY 2019 UPDATE

Mobility 2.0 is all about inventing new sustainable business models to move people around. This tough transition is marked by the large sized but now discounted IPOs for the ride hailing companies- Uber & Lyft- as the traditional automotive OEMs confront "peak auto" contemplating megamergers to achieve higher economies of scale and scaling up new technologies. A shrinking Maven, a disappearing Chariot, more curb scooter rental entities (why does it cost more to rent a $400 stand up scooter than a $40,000 Cadillac?) and the clarion call that valuation rests with smart software that enables autonomous driving as Waymo and Cruise take hold. And invention and scale will be impacted by the looming bifurcation of the “smart-connected” world over 5G and open or closed internets. Great time to be an innovator when everything seems up for grabs.
