As the seasons try to shift in the Midwest USA, we seem to be in perpetual summer. Combined with the devastating effects of nature in many parts of the world, many feel as if we are now in the “New Climate”. Predicting, mitigating, surviving and alerting weather and pollution related threats will drive innovation funding in new directions, converging with the New Mobility technologies which are now estimated to have consumed over $30 Billion in cumulative incremental R&D funding over the last few years. Sitting two weeks ago in San Jose at our partner TU-Automotive's Auto R&D conference, it was frightening to see colleagues' cell phones go off with messages from family and friends not so far away in Santa Rosa that the city was an inferno. Our friends lost houses, but not their optimism.

That convergence will show up as software and apps tie together all these signals and tell us what to do. In fact, increasingly, as A.I. develops, we will be told what to do making our cellphones, smart cars and home--our new parents. We saw the first cell phone containing a new sensor measuring Indoor Air Quality, a heretofore very expensive professional sensor used only by industry. Ever wonder what is in the air you are breathing in hotel rooms, hospitals, your home, schools, workplaces and favorite shops? We predict tremendous social media activism as this “new sensor” shows up on your phone.

Appropriately, this month featured members are involved in advancing software to make big data actionable everyday data. This was evident last week at the Detroit Film Theatre as the TechStars Mobility Class of 2017 presented and many of the technologies were software based and all geared to create efficiency, comfort and save resources.
